Wind Energy & the Niagara Escarpment

Background

Wind energy and the placement of turbines have become an issue along the Niagara Escarpment corridor.   Federal tax credits (which are currently waiting renewal by Congress) as well as a state policy and regulatory climate which generally supports renewable energy projects have made the Niagara Escarpment corridor an attractive landscape feature for this sustainable energy source.  By virtue of its relatively high elevation and windspeeds, coupled with its reasonable proximity to the electric transmission system, the escarpment corridor will likely receive additional pressures for these types of facilities.   Communities and citizens of the corridor must be knowledgeable of both the technology and issues associated with siting in order to make informed decisions and to balance issues that can be present along the corridor such as wildlife and viewshed impacts.  Listed below are a variety of documents and websites that can assist you in finding the information you desire.
