A series of public workshops are being held to develop the Greenway Plan, with three being completed thus far, including Calumet, Brown and Fond du Lac Counties. Workshop participants are given two separate exercises through the course of the 4 hour event. First, working in groups, attendees record responses to several ‘forward thinking’ questions about the conservation and future use of the Niagara Escarpment as a method to help determine which physical features and sites should be considered for incorporation into the greenway plan. The second exercise utilizes maps of the workshop’s particular study area and participants identify specific sites and features they feel are important or special with respect to the Niagara Escarpment. The maps are also used to identify potential ‘key connecting routes’ for possible future trail planning activity.
A Greenway Advisory Committee is currently being formed and will meet in late 2011 to begin its role in guiding the development of the Plan, as well as providing technical and policy input. Please let us know if you would like to volunteer for this committee by e-mailing us at Niagara@escarpmentnetwork.org. The Niagara Escarpment Greenway Plan is scheduled for completion in mid-2012.
